How To Replace The Glass In Velux Skylights

Velux skylights come in a variety of models, some featuring an electric retractable shade that covers the glass and others that have the ability to vent open. Regardless of the style you have, Velux glass can crack or fog over time. Fortunately, you can replace Velux skylight glass yourself in just minutes.

Step 1

Lay a tarp down inside of your home directly under the skylight.

Step 2

Climb up to your roof using a ladder.

Step 3

Unscrew the screws that line the frame of the skylight using a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 4

Lift away the top frame from the glass and slide the locks over that hold the glass in place.

Step 5

Lift out the glass, including the gasket, and set it to the side.

Step 6

Attach the new gasket to the new piece of glass by sliding it over the edges of the glass if the glass does not already have the gasket in place.

Step 7

Lay the new piece of glass down into place in the frame.

Step 8

Replace the frame, and then screw it back into place.
